Winkston is situated just off the A703 Peebles to Edinburgh road and offers a superb touring base for central Scotland as well as the Scottish Borders. If you need it there is a regular bus service to Edinburgh from our driveway.
Peebles, with its many restaurants, cafés, pubs and quality shops is just 1.5 miles south, Edinburgh a short drive 23 miles north.
Peebles and the surrounding area has many facilities to offer its visitors. From fishing on the lovely River Tweed to a choice of many good golf courses at Peebles, Cardrona, Innerleithen and West Linton.
In Peebles itself there is a good sports centre (The Gytes) and swimming pool to suit all the family.
The town offers good quality shops and a weekly outdoor market (on
Thursdays). The area is ideally suited to walking, cycling and horse
riding. There is a Riding Centre nearby as well as Glentress
Forest for mountain biking. We have secure
bike storage and bike washers available.
The Borders area is steeped in heritage with many historical homes and great Abbeys, all within an easy drive from Peebles.
Just outside Peebles itself we have Neidpath Castle, an impressive medieval castle dramatically situated by the River Tweed. Also nearby is Traquair House, the oldest inhabited house in Scotland.
